About Genís Subils

Portrait of Genís Subils

I'm Genís Subils Sirvent, and I study Computer Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

I started designing and building long before university gave it a name. Bringing design and engineering together is still the point.

I balance university with my products and selected client work.

How I work

I design before I code. Most interface problems are not fixed with more code; they are solved in Figma before anything is built.

I think about everyday use. JGS Store, Faktu and Balance start from specific needs and are built around them.

I learn in both directions. Design and code feed each other: a better eye for interfaces makes me a better developer, and building things makes me a better designer.

Where I am from

I am from Catalonia, near the Costa Brava. One of my favourite places is the Marimurtra Botanical Garden in Blanes. Being there, overlooking the Mediterranean, brings me peace.

What fills my days

Computer Engineering at UPC is my priority and sets the rhythm of my week. Outside class, I manage the live scripts and customer support for JGS Store, develop new resources for the store and keep building Faktu and Balance. They are demanding parallel projects that I work on consistently alongside my studies.

Product design

Figma first—wireframes, flows and interfaces before a line of code.

Frontend

React, Astro, Next.js and TypeScript for interfaces built to last.

End to end

I take a product from idea to production: design, code and release.

Before that, I worked for several months as a frontend developer at IM Education. Working alongside a backend developer, I implemented the university's frontend structure: navigation, institutional pages and sections for degrees, master's programmes and courses, from design through production.

Contributions

631 contributions in the last year

Tools

Day to day, React, Astro, Next.js, TypeScript and Figma. Often Node.js and Python too, and Lua with Vue for the FiveM resources at JGS Store.

Native in Spanish and Catalan, and comfortable working and reading documentation in English. I am based in Catalonia and work remotely when the project allows it.
